Quinn Ready To Move On After Being Passed Over For Coaching Jobs

Dan Quinn

Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn had been in the mix for the the Browns head coaching job, and Browns CEO Joe Banner reportedly said passing over Quinn was probably the toughest decision in the process, Joshua Mayers of the Seattle Times reports.

Quinn had also interviewed with the Minnesota Vikings, who recently hired Mike Zimmer as head coach, but was asked specifically about the Browns hire after Thursday’s practice.

“Had a good visit with them, and a lot of respect certainly for their organization, and Joe Banner and (owner Jimmy Haslam),” Quinn said. “I also had a good visit with the guys at Minnesota with (owner Zygi Wilf) and (general manager) Rick Spielman, those guys. Both those (teams) have hired some great coaches, so it was a great experience to go through.

“Even more importantly, having the support of (general manager John Schneider) and (head coach Pete Carroll) to have a chance and be so supportive of that, I don’t think I could be more fortunate to have better bosses than those two. And to have that kind of support from those guys, to have them in your corner … I couldn’t be more fired up for that.”

So was there any frustration that the Seahawks’ success in getting to the Super Bowl might have kept Quinn from potentially getting those jobs?

“None,” he said. “No, no. … I couldn’t be more fired up to be a part of (this team) and moving forward here, just keep the focus on the team, which it is. None at all.”
