Hawks LB Lofa Tatupu finds himself in trouble today, as it has come out that he was pulled over about 2:30am Saturday morning and arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The Seattle Times is reporting that an officer spotted Tatupu’s car doing 50 in a 35 zone, and after he was pulled over he submitted to field-sobriety tests, but declined to take a portable Breathalyzer.

After being handcuffed and taken to the police station, reports say he was cooperative throughout the process. Tatupu’s blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) was measured at 0.155 and 0.158, nearly double the legal limit of 0.08. That measurement was taken about two hours after Tatupu was observed driving the car.

He put out a statement today about the incident. “I want to apologize to my family, teammates, the Seahawks ownership and organization, and the fans for making a poor decision and putting myself in a bad situation. I take seriously my role as a leader on this team, and in the community, and because of that I’m disappointed and embarrassed by the level of poor judgment I used last weekend. Thankfully, nobody was hurt. This will never happen again, and I hope through hard work on and off the field to begin earning your respect and trust again.”

The 25-year-old has been with the Hawks for three seasons, and signed a new deal in March for $42 mil though the 2015 season. He was in practice last week as part of a mandatory minicamp. No word on if the league will suspend him or take other action against him for the incident.

Former number one draft choice Marcus Tubbs recently had arthroscopic surgery to clean up his often-injured right knee. The surgery will keep him out of action this weekend at the Hawks mini-camp, but reports say that he may be ready to go for the start of the season. Tubbs was gone all of last season due to that right knee, and it’s one that has caused him to miss 32 games over the past three seasons. The team also made a pair of roster moves today, signing DT Larry Tripplett and linebacker Wesly Mallard.

The Seahawks needed a tight end in a lot of people’s minds in the first round of Saturday’s draft, but instead of taking one, they moved down and they picked DE Lawrence Jackson of Souther California with the 28th pick. “I bring versatility along the defensive line. I know everybody saw what the Giants did in the Super Bowl with their (rotating) defensive line,” Jackson said on the telephone from a draft party.

The deal that got Jackson to become a member of the Hawks saw them trade their 25th pick to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for that selection, plus Dallas’ fifth-round pick (163rd overall) and a seventh-round choice (No. 235 overall). Jackson will help out a line that lost DT’s Chuck Darby and Ellis Wyms.

The team did fill their TE need in round two, grabbing 6-foot-5 John Carlson from Notre Dame. They had to make another deal to move up to get Carlson, as they traded with Baltimore to move up from 55 to 38.

Indianapolis ESPN Radio 1070 AM reported that the Indianapolis Colts may be interested in former Seattle RB Shuan Alexander. Reportedly Alexander told his teammates that he might have interest in playing for the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots. The 2005 MVP, record breaker and all-time Seahawks rusher was released on Tuesday after poor 2006 and 2007 seasons. Shaun’s over 30, and he hasn’t had a 1,000 yard rushing season (1,612 yads over past two seasons) since his MVP season when he rushed for 1,880 yards and 27 touchdowns. He’s already proved he’s slowed down and looks like second string material, and that’s where he’ll be if the Colts or Pats pick him up. The CincyJungle reported that the Cincinnati Bengals are also said to have interest in Alexander.

NFL team owners voted 25-to-7 this week to allow the use of communications devices for defensive players. Only one player on the defense will be allowed to have a communication device in their helmet, just like quarterbacks have had in their helmets for a few seasons now. For the Seahawks, Lofa Tatupu is the most likely candidate to get the device since he makes the calls for the defense. Tatupu said he didn’t like the new rule and didn’t think it was necessary. The Seahawks were one of the seven teams who voted against the rule.
