Seahawks Think DL Malik McDowell Could Miss Season Following ATV Accident

The Seahawks put second-round defensive lineman Malik McDowell on the reserve/did not report list Sunday amid concern the former Michigan State player could miss his entire rookie season according to the team’s official website.

Head coach Pete Carroll announced the news in a media session this morning. McDowell reportedly suffered a concussion and undisclosed “facial injuries” during the pre-training camp ATV crash and has remained in Michigan undergoing treatment.

The 21-year-old was considered a first-round talent this spring but slide to the No.35th-overall draft pick due to a combination of off-the-field disciplinary issues and a perceived lack of effort at times on the field. The Seahawks were counting on McDowell to play a pivotal role as an interior disruptor in tandem with Michael Bennett, Jarran Reed, Ahtyba Rubin, and fellow rookie Nazair Jones
