Appears Seahawks Swapping John Carlson for Visanthe Shiancoe

Seems like the Seahawks and Vikings are always in a free agent tug of war now.

After watching John Carlson bolt for greener pastures and a starting role on a 5 year $25 million deal to return home to the Minnesota Vikings the Seahawks have scheduled meetings with recently released Steve Hutchinson, and now, free agent Visanthe Shiancoe; both former Vikings.

Shiancoe has been a steady presence at tight end for the Vikings. He has averaged 525 yards and 6 TD’s over the past four seasons. He had a breakout year in 2009 when he notched 11 touchdowns in 13 starts.

The connection is obvious considering the Seahawks employ former Vikings Sidney Rice and Tarvaris Jackson who are being coordinated by former Viking Darrell Bevell on offense.

If he’s signed there will once again be talk that the Seahawks employ the best two tight-end set in the league, if it can live up to it’s potential.

For all the crap Tarvaris gets (from me and others) it is worth noting that Shaincoe did notch seven touchdowns with Jackson at the helm in 2008. Maybe that’s a sign the Seahawks could get a bit more out of their tight ends with him on board.

Hopefully though, it will be Matt Flynn chucking balls to Zach Miller and Visanthe Shiancoe next season, with Steve Hutchinson blocking for them.
