Earl Thomas Named Pro Bowl Starter: 5 Other Seahawks Named Alternatives

The rising Seahawks and some of their young stars are getting their deserved recognition today.

Safety Earl Thomas was named as the NFC’s starter in the Pro Bowl and 5 other Seahawks will have incredibly strong chances to make the cut as named alternatives as well.

Kam Chancellor, Brandon Browner, Michael Robinson, Jon Ryan, and Marshawn Lynch, all very well deserved, especially the latter.

It should be considered nothing short of remarkable that the secondary ranked dead last in virtually every category Pete Carroll inherited will very likely be represented by 3 Pro Bowlers, as flawed as the Pro Bowl system can sometimes be, that’s pretty damn cool.

Brandon Browner (I have been on his bandwagon even before the Pittsburgh game), has obviously cemented himself in the players and coaches eyes as a force at the cornerback position. The Seahawks would be wise to lock up the leagues tallest cornerback to a long term deal ASAP.

Kam Chancellors selection should be pleasing rather then surprising at this point. The second year fifth round draft choices emergence at SS has been well documented throughout the season.

Michael Robinsons selection is a testament to the job he has done creating lanes for fellow alternate Marshawn Lynch, who has emerged as arguably the leagues best running back and is playing better then anyone right now. Both have flourished under Tom Cable, who Seahawks fans better hope and pray doesn’t jump ship for a Head Coaching position somewhere. Just imagine the difference a healthy Okung, Carpenter, and Moffitt could have made.

Jon Ryan has been one of Seattles most effective free agent signings in recent memory. Ryan tied for 2nd in punts pinned inside the 20 and 3rd in punting yardage. He is on track to make his 2nd pro bowl in 3 seasons with the Seahawks.

With the way the Pro Bowl has been going the past couple seasons with playoff contending players opting to sit out for rest, focus, or whatever related reasons and the Super Bowl contenders scratched from playing in the game; i’ll go ahead and say expect all 5 of the Seahawks alternatives to make the Pro Bowl, and each guy fully deserves his nod. Browner is tied for second in the league in interceptions with 7 along with Charles Woodson. Lynch is ranked 8th in rushing yards and is tied for 3rd in rushing TD’s. He also has the leagues longest rushing TD streak and kept the 49ers out of the history books by breaking the plane in a losing effort. Robinson is basically tied to Lynch, and the fact the running game has sustained so well minus three starting offensive lineman should be a further testament to Robinsons level of play.

As disappointed as I am with where the Seahawks will probably end up drafting (there are some good scenarios for a 13thish pick), it’s tough not to be thrilled with the news that plenty of Seahawks helmets should be seen amongst those Pro Bowl jerseys.
