Seahawks place Russell Okung on IR; re-sign OG Gibson

The Seattle Seahawks have placed left tackle Russell Okung on injured reserve, John Boyle of the Everett Herald reports.

Okung suffered a significant injury to his pectoral muscle after he was tossed to the ground by Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Trent Cole in the final two minutes of Seattle’s 31-14 win last Thursday night. Okung will undergo surgery and is facing six months of rehabilitation.

Roster move: To replace Okung on the 53-man roster, Seattle has re-signed guard Mike Gibson, who started eight games, at both guard spots, for the 2010 Seahawks, playing in more than half of the team’s offensive plays. Gibson was released at the end of the 2011 training camp and has had workouts with the Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears this season.
