Carroll ‘Not Surprised’ By Tom Cable Head Coaching Rumors

Seahawks offensive line coach Tom Cable has come up in discussions about a Pac-12 head coaching job. Steve Corkran, who covers the Raiders for the Contra Costa Times, tweeted that Cable’s name is being “bandied about” as a potential replacement at UCLA, which recently fired coach Rick Neuheisel.

The rumor makes sense — Cable was the Bruins’ offensive line coach in 2004 and 2005, and obviously possesses plenty of head coaching experience. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said he’s not surprised to see Cable’s name come up in such conversations. “He’s an extraordinary coach and for somebody to recognize him as a potential candidate, that’s no surprise,” Carroll said Tuesday.

“He’s a big time coach and he’s been a successful head coach. In years past, my guys and my staff know that I’ll do everything I can to help them get whatever they want, and I’ve always told them that and I believe in it and I’ll work harder than anybody to help them. There’s a time and a place and we have to do that in good fashion and all good respect and all, so we’ll do that. I don’t know anything specific about that other than I’m not surprised one bit that anybody would talk about Tom. He did a fantastic job of getting the Raider thing going under difficult circumstances and there’s no doubt that he’s going to be a great head coach again.”
