Whitehurst, Baldwin, Browner help surging Seahawks seal Giants; 36-25

After adjusting their roster at the beginning of the season and their offensive pace a week ago, the Seahawks preserved their most impressive alteration for the Giants.

Coach Pete Carroll and his club of no-names found a way to make plays when it counted—and win.

Backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst tossed a go-ahead 27-yard touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin with 2:37 to play and Brandon Browner returned an interception 94 yards to dismiss a desperate, late rally by the Giants in a 36-25 win Sunday.

“This is a team that is growing together and I think we have grown a lot this season,” Baldwin said after the Seahawks (2-3) posted a crucial win heading into a bye week. “I think we grew a lot today.”

Carroll made big-time changes to the Seahawks’ roster this season and has at least a dozen new starters. A no-huddle offense was incorporated to the mix in an encouraging second-half push against Atlanta last weekend and it generated 424 yards against the Giants (3-2). This week the big plays came just in time time, from some of the least likely players, to capture the win on the road.

Next: Bye week; at Cleveland Browns, Sunday October 23, 10 AM PT.
