Breaking News: Seattle Seahawks Retain Brandon Mebane

The Seattle Seahawks have announced they have signed defensive tackle Brandon Mebane to a two year contract.

General Manager announced the retaining of Mebane at Seahawks headquarters today.

This is a huge signing and by all means should be considered part of the Seahawks free agency class that now includes arguably three of the top players available at their respective positions; wide receiver Sidney Rice, guard Robert Gallery, and now defensive tackle Brandon Mebane.

There were multiple suitors for his services, including the division rival rams. In the end, the familiarity card trumped all and Seattle gets to keep their defensive tackle that they know was coveted on the open market.

With this signing wrapped up as I have been reporting watch for the Seahawks to make a strong play for cornerback Antonio Cromartie, especially considering they are going to have strong competition from the Jets now that they have reportedly lost out on Nnamdi.

As good as this coup was, I am upset they didn’t pursue Ray Edwards aggressively. He only received a 5 year, 30 million deal from Atlanta, not even half what Charles Johnson got. Aren’t the second biggest pockets in the league able to absorb that for the best pass rusher available?
