Breaking News: Jonathan Joseph Signs with Texans for $48.5 Million

A possible Seahawks target was taken off the board but it comes as no surprise as to who it was who snagged him.

Pro Bowl cornerback Jonathan Joseph cashed in with a 5 year, $48.5 million deal with the Houston Texans, who were all but going to put a full court press to sign one of the best available cornerbacks.

That deal is larger than the one Seattle gave Sidney Rice. I don’t expect Seattle to be dolling out anything north of the 5 year, $41 (up to $44), 18.5 million guaranteed deal they gave him unless they make an incredibly strong push to sign Nnamdi Asomuagha whose rumored pricetag will be roughly $15 annually.

One spot for Nnamdi Asomuagha is gone, with the Jets and 49ers the two oft rumored suitors. One potential domino to fall soon is that if the Jets sign Asomuagha then they will not retain Antonio Cromartie; they may not be regardless.

Cromartie has already expressed interest in joining the Seattle Seahawks and the drop off from Joseph to him is very minimal. He is a No. 1 corner and will come at a cheaper rate then the $9.5 annual salary that Joseph received.

Seattle still has roughly $35 million to spend and more work to do, I would be very surprised if Antonio Cromartie isn’t the newest major signing Pete Carroll pulls off and we could be hearing about it very shortly.
