ESPY’s: Seahawks Lose to VCU For “Best Upset”: How?

I find this hard to believe from a historical context, but I had a feeling the Seahawks were going to be edged out, and if anybody was going to edge them out it was VCU.

It’s not the end of the world, but I am disappointed. We have all seen big upsets in the NCAA tournament. We have seen No. 1 seeds go down, we have seen it all before. It doesn’t change the fact that small schools and perceived pretenders making extraordinary postseason runs is a great accomplishment, but that in itself is no longer unique.

Never, in NFL history, has a team played a full 16 game season and made the post season with a losing record. While everyone was spouting off about how much the Seahawks sucked, they were plotting an upset I am surprised had much competition. Not only were they the first losing team to ever make the post season, but they were also the largest home underdogs in playoff history. Throw in the fact they were going up against the defending champions and it was really a “never will happen again” moment.

The game still has a chance to be recognized for the Lynch run; Leon Washington and Felix Hernandez also represent Seattle amongst the nominees.

Never, in NCAA history has a team gone from the play-in First Four to play in the Final Four. First try no warm up.

  2. Andrew Auger says:

Well the same point can be made for the Seahawks. I feel it’s even more compelling that the Hawks didn’t just beat any squad, they upset the defending Super Bowl Champions.

People were saying VCU shouldn’t have even made the tournament, well, people were laughing at Seattle for making the post season. We had the last laugh though.

Also, there was no signature play like there was against the Saints.

The reason Seattle lost plain and simple is the timing, VCU’s upset happened several weeks after and Abbys goal happened very recently. The topics were trending more so then the Saints upset.

Also, did VCU accomplish all of this with a losing record?
