TE Carlson Says He Wants Matt Hasselbeck Back in Seattle

Since they both live in the Seattle area during the off-season, Seahawks tight end John Carlson and quarterback Matt Hasselbeck have been working out together during the lockout. (Carlson has even made an appearance in a Hasselbeck twitpic).

Hasselbeck is unsigned for 2011, and Carlson tells Mark Craig of the Minneapolis Star Tribune that he’d like to see his workout partner back with the Seahawks next season.

“The lockout has been unfortunate for us because of Matt’s situation and the fact we also have a new offensive coordinator, Darrell Bevell, who came over from the Vikes,” Carlson said. “I really hope Matt comes back because he knows the Darrell Bevell West Coast system from all those years under Mike Holmgren.

“But the thing is I have absolutely no idea if Matt will be back or not. Like everything else, it’s just wait and see.”

After averaging 53 receptions, 600 yards, and six touchdowns his first two seasons in the league, Carlson (6-5, 251) caught just 31 passes for 318 yards and a touchdown despite playing in an offense that used 2-tight end sets on over 40% of the offensive snaps. Carlson caught a pair of first-half touchdowns in the Seahawks’ surprising playoff win over the New Orleans Saints, but his season ended via a concussion on the fourth offensive play the following week against the Chicago Bears.
