Brandt Says the Hawks Won’t Rule the NFC West in 2011’s Gil Brandt won’t be making friends in Seattle, St. Louis and Glendale anytime soon, but definitely in San Francisco. Brandt hosted a live chat on on Tuesday, and boldly predicted the Seahawks run as NFC West kings will end this season, with the 49ers snatching that crown.

Here’s more from Brandt: “First off, they have a good nucleus, and I think Jim Harbaugh will do wonders with Alex Smith. That will put them in position to win that division. This guy is a good coach.” If Brandt is in fact correct, it would be the 49ers first division title since 2002. Brandt was asked later in the chat who he thinks will be the Week 1 starter for Seattle: “I think it will be Charlie Whitehurst. They have a new offensive coordinator (Darrell Bevell), and I think he’ll look at what Whitehurst did at the end of the season and go with him.”
