Washington takes home NFC Special Teams Player of the Week award

RB/KR Leon Washington will be named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week by the National Football League Wednesday following his record-breaking performance versus the San Diego Chargers. Washington became the tenth player in NFL history, first in Seahawks history, to return two kickoffs for touchdowns in a single game.

The two returns of 101 and 99 yards are the longest in club history and is just the third player in NFL history with two touchdowns of 99-plus yards in the same game. Washington’s 253 total kickoff return yardage is also a franchise record, while his 63.3 yard average (4 for 253) ranks fourth in NFL history (min. 3 att.), and highest since 1960. The fifth-year veteran has six career kickoff touchdowns, tied for second all-time in NFL history (8-Josh Cribbs, Cleveland).

  1. No surprise here, he was absolutely unstoppable last Sunday. In fact without Washington I’m not sure if the Seahawks would have won that game.
