Hawks reach injury settlement with DE Nick Reed

Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports the Seahawks have reached an injury settlement with second-year defensive end Nick Reed.

A seventh-round pick (247th overall) out of the University of Oregon, Reed emerged as a training camp/pre-season sensation in 2009, tying for the team with 13 tackles and leading the NFL with 4.5 quarterback sacks. Reed made the team’s 53-man roster and was active for all 16 games, totaling 17 tackles, 1 quarterback sack and returning a fumble 79 yards for a touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The 6-1, 245-pound Reed was viewed as a “Leo” defensive end in Pete Carroll’s defensive system, but in three pre-season games, Reed has posted one tackle (a quarterback sack) and knee surgery dropped him behind 2010 seventh-round pick Dexter Davis on the depth chart.
