Is it Time to Start Thinking about Change in Seattle?
At 2-4 it’s not time to panic yet, but that time could come soon.
The Seattle Seahawks have the opportunity to heal up this week thanks to the bye, but their remaining schedule doesn’t look so great.
Of the team’s final 10 games, there’s the good possibility that Seattle could lose six of them. Take a look for yourself.

Granted some of my predicted losses (at Dallas, at Arizona, vs. San Francisco and at Houston) could very well turn out to be wins, but I seriously doubt it.
If the Seahawks in fact do round out the season as I project them to with a record of 4-12, the question needs to be asked, do you keep General Manager Tim Ruskell and Head Coach Jim Mora Jr.?
Ruskell is in the final year of his contract and many of his draft selections and big free agent pickups have been busts.
Deion Branch, T.J. Duckett, Julius Jones, (possibly) Nate Burleson, Mark Wahle, Edgerrin James, Lawrence Jackson, Ben Obomanu, Kelly Jennings, Tyler Schmitt and Brandon Coutu, just to name a few have not lived up to expectations.
Plus, Ruskell let offensive guard Steve Hutchinson walk out the Seahawks’ door and into Minnesota’s. You all know how instrumental Hutchinson was for Seattle and how he’s now the anchor for Minnesota’s dominant ground game.
Then there’s the wide receiver debacle that took place last year in which Ruskell picked up Koren Robinson, traded a draft pick for Keary Colbert and then released him in November and also signed and released/waived Samie Parker and Billy McMullen. Signing and cutting players are one thing. They happen, it’s normal and expected. But when you frantically ship a draft pick and sign any Joe Blow off the street just because they have receiving statistics in the N.F.L. and then get rid of nearly all of them later on during the same season, that’s completely ridiculous.
This brings us to our next logical question.
If Ruskell gets the boot, is it too far fetched that Mora Jr. could get the same treatment?
There are a couple of exceptional former head coaches that are currently unemployed in Mike Shanahan and Bill Cowher. Plus, there is a chance that Tennessee Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher could be given his pink slip after the season comes to an end.
Personally, I think both Ruskell and Mora Jr. need to be driven out of town come season’s end if Seattle has a record of 5-11 or worse, possibly even at 6-10. Yes, it takes time for a new head coach to get everything in place and to see results, that window of tolerance is rather small in the N.F.L. compared to the likes of college football. Plus, Mora Jr. has been with the team for some time now as the defensive coordinator prior to taking over for Mike Holmgren and the Seahawks’ players should be used to him by now. Seattle has become a team this decade that is thought of as a winning program and a team that has had chances of making and winning the Super Bowl. Two back-to-back losing seasons at one point in the past would have been tolerable because Seattle just wasn’t that good of a team, but, now, things are different.
What do you think? Here’s where I’m turning the soap box over to you, my readers, to stand on and weigh in with what you think should be done with the team if they finish out the season as poorly as they’ve started it. Does the team get rid of Ruskell? Mora Jr.? Both? If so, who do you want to be brought in? Sound off in the comments section and if enough people contribute their opinions, I’ll write a future mid-week column specifically around who you all want calling the shots next season in Seattle.

Well put.
Add Spencer, Sims, Russel, and Ashworth to that list of busts/terrible moves. Way too many mistakes to grant an extension.

I totally agree with getting rid of all of them. Way too many bad decisions made by Ruskell to keep him after this year. I think that getting Shanahan would be awesome for us.
