Question Pondered if Holmgren “Mailed it in” Last Year

There’s an interesting debate going on over at the forum called NortwestFootball.Net, which talks about former Hawks coach Mike Holmgren “mailing it in” last year as he knew it would be his last with the Hawks.

Below is the story that started the debate, which you can get to by clicking HERE:

710 ESPN Seattle is discussing this issue after Colin Cowherd, citing a source, claimed that Mike Holmgren mailed in his final season, by NFL standards, as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.

Cowherd’s source said by Week 13, Holmgren had very little energy, was looking forward to retirement, and was working from 9-5 as the signs that Holmgren was mailing it in.

Brock Huard is vehemently denying it, as I’m sure most of the people they’ll have coming on to discuss the matter (Tim Hasselbeck at 11:40am, Damon Huard at 12:05pm, John Clayton at 12:25pm), while Mike Salk is sort of stringing the argument along.

Mike Holmgren pretty much has to stab my family to death in order for me to say something negative about him, but I’m sure by Week 13, and the team was 2-10, had lost all its WRs, his Pro Bowl quarterback, 80% of his starting offensive line, he was pretty deflated at how his final season was going.

It should be noted that in Week 14, the Seahawks, with a patchwork offensive line, outplayed the New England Patriots for much of the game and won their next two games. So if he mailed it in, the JV Seahawks on the field didn’t play like their coach was checking out fishing rods.
