Hawks Talking to Detroit About a Deal for DT Redding

Lions Bears Football
The Lions and Seahawks, two teams that are thinking about the future, are talking trade. Sources say that the Lions are looking to send defensive tackle Cory Redding to Seattle in exchange for Pro Bowl linebacker Julian Peterson. As is usually the case, the Lions are not talking about the possible deal. Lions spokesman Bill Keenist said, “We have nothing to confirm at this time.”

If the Lions do the move, they could move Chuck Darby into the position for Redding. Darby was a three-year starter in Seattle before coming to Detroit last season. They also signed 36-year-old Grady Jackson to help stop the run as well. When it comes to passing downs, the team can bring in Ikaika Alama-Francis and Andre Fluellen.

The Hawks were rumored to be close to cutting Peterson, so making a move where they would be able to get a player for him would work out for Seattle. He would be able to come to the Lions and right away fill the vacancy at the Lions strong side LB spot.

Peterson’s days with the Hawks was numbered when he declined to take a pay cut from what would be his salary – $6.5 million. If the Hawks did make the move, he would still count more than $4 million under the salary cap to account for the remainder of the signing-bonus money he received.
