The Seahawks announced Wednesday that Jim Mora Jr. will succeed Mike Holmgren as head coach after the 2008 season. Mora, who is currently the team’s assistant head coach and defensive backs coach, has a four-year deal in place. Holmgren informed the franchise last month that 2008 will be his last. The 59-year-old has spent the past 10 seasons as head coach of the Seahawks, guiding the team to an 82-and-62 mark and four straight NFC West Division titles.
He also led the team to an AFC West crown in his first year. Overall, Holmgren has gone 157-and-99 over his 16-year head coaching career with Seattle and Green Bay. Mora spent three seasons as head coach in Atlanta before being fired after the 2006 campaign. He has also worked as an assistant in San Diego, New Orleans and San Francisco.
