Branch Tears ACL; Out 8 Months

In a move that could put his 2008 season in doubt, Seahawks wide out Deion Branch will have surgery after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday’s 42-20 loss to the Packers.  Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said that a recovery for that type of injury could take about 9 months, mening he will be out until at least the start of the 2008 season.

Branch played hurt most of this past season, as he missed five regular season games and the playoff game vs Washington with foot and calf injuries.  He had an okay seaon catching the ball, as he pulled in 49 passes for 661 yards and four TD’s.  He has not been the #1 wideout the team thought they were getting when they traded the Pats a first-round pick for him in 2006 and then gave him a six-year deal worth $39 million.

He has 315 catches for 4,130 yards and 22 TDs in his career, but has seemed to have lived off the fact that he was the MVP of Super Bowl XXXIX.  This injury may force the Seahawks to look hard at WR’s in the draft or free agency when it kicks off in March.

I wonder if Deion has had any second thoughts about leaving the New England Patriots. I’m sure the money is nice in Seattle but what has happened to his career with all these injuries since he left Tom Brady & Co. Que Sera Sera Deion?
