Frye on Board with Hawks, Wallace May Move to WR

The Charlie Fye era has begun in Seattle, as the former Browns QB arrived and was on the field taking snaps and throwing balls on Wednesday. As for the Seahawks, their tinkering with their QB position may not be done. The team had been searching for an experienced number three QB, and while Frye does not exactly meet that criteria, he does bring some starting experience to the position. He joined the Hawks on the practice field Wednesday, and did express some shock over the quick move that sent from starting this last Sunday vs the Steelers to wearing a ball cap and holding a clip board for the Seahawks.

“It’s a little shocking but there’s a first time for everything,” he said. “I’m just trying to find the positives, that’s the way I am.” One positive for Frye may be the Seahawks long-term plan, which could see him shift into the teams backup quarterback. Currently the Hawks have Senaca Wallace as the number two quarterback, but reports say that coach Mike Holmgren and the organization may be looking at moving Wallace into more of a “slash” role much like former Steeler QB/WR Kordell Stewart had in parts of his NFL career.

They feel that Wallace can contribute as a wide out, and now with receiver D.J. Hackett down with an injury, the team is a bit thin at that position. Wallace has shown the talent to make plays when given a shot, so don’t be surprised to see him out there as a WR and still be able to take snaps from under center if need be. If Wallace is needed long-term at wide receiver, the team can turn to Frye once he learns the offense if something happens to current starter Matt Hasslebeck.

Right now for Frye, he is just hoping that at some point with the Hakws the opportunity to take the field will be there. For now, he is just content learning the offense and taking advantage of his new surroundings. “Change happens all the time,” Frye said. “You just have to take advantage of your opportunities. I think this is a great opportunity for me and I am definitely going to take advantage of it.”
