The Seahawks continue play this Saturday with the second of two road games to begin the preseason. Seattle travels to Green Bay to take on the Packers on August 18 at 5 p.m. (PT). The game will be shown on channel 5 in Seattle.
This will be just the third time the two teams have squared off in the preseason with Seattle holding a 2-0 advantage. The Seahawks won the first meeting, 38-21, on August 12, 1983, in the Kingdome and took the second game, 21-3, on August 16, 2004, at Lambeau Field.
In the regular season, Green Bay holds a 6-5 edge over Seattle but the teams have split the last two meetings. Seattle closed out the 2005 season on New Year’s Day in 2006, and using mostly backups for much of the game, lost 23-17. In that game, Shaun Alexander passed New York’s Tiki Barber to win the NFL rushing crown and just before the half, scored his 28th total touchdown to set the NFL record, since broken by San Diego’s LaDainian Tomlinson.
Last season’s meeting at Qwest Field on Monday Night Football turned out to be the coldest home game in Seattle history as the temperature dipped to 34 degrees at kickoff and featured a first half with everything from wind, rain, sleet and snow. Seattle won the game 34-24.
Head Coach Mike Holmgren began his head coaching career in Green Bay from 1992-98. During that time, Green Bay posted a 75-37 (.670) regular-season record, a 9-5 (.643) postseason mark, and two Super Bowl appearances, including a 35-21 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI played in New Orleans.
